The Silent Hum Foundation
Through listening, comes knowledge, through knowledge, comes understanding, through understanding, comes wisdom, through wisdom, comes wellbeing.
Mā te whakarongo, ka mōhio, mā te mōhio, ka mārama, mā te mārama, ka matau, mā te matau, ka ora.
Tā mātou Kaupapa
Our kaupapa is to steady families in Aotearoa New Zealand through serious illness and bereavement. We focus on what helps in real homes and hospital rooms: clear information, practical support, and strong attention to siblings and wider whānau. Our resources come from lived experience and are shaped with input from clinicians, teachers, and community partners.
What Sets Us Apart
We write in plain language for the NZ context and keep evidence in view. Safety sits at the core. We use robust safeguarding, privacy, and risk processes. We commit to cultural safety and respectful care. We report on goals and outcomes and are open about funding and governance. Read a guide, share a resource, volunteer, or donate if you are able. Together we keep the hum steady for those who need support.

We speak plainly and tell the truth. We set clear expectations, document decisions, and correct errors in our public reporting.
Honesty

We operate transparently. We publish policies, budgets, and outcome measures, and we welcome feedback from whānau, advisors, and partners.
Open

We respect people, culture, and place. We protect privacy, follow tikanga, and keep children, rangatahi, and vulnerable adults safe through strong safeguarding practice.
Respect
Our Core Values
ANCHOR explains the stance we take with families. Awhi and ngākau signal heart and action. Courage and honesty keep communication clear. Openness and respect maintain trust. These anchors align with safeguarding, cultural safety, and transparent governance.
Awhi
We stand alongside whānau with practical support. We focus on useful actions, clear information, and small steps that reduce stress during treatment, recovery, or grief.

Ngākau
Our practice is heart-led and professional. We show compassion, keep boundaries, and act in ways that uphold mana and dignity for every person involved.

Courage
We face hard facts and decisions. We ask for help early, own mistakes quickly, and choose what is right over what is easy, even under pressure.
